What kind of equipment do I need?
Required Equipment:
Race skis* and bindings no wider than 100 mm underfoot. Twin tips, park skis, blades, powder skis are not allowed. These are allowed for free skiing after practice ends.
Boots
Poles must be full-length for practices and races.
Helmets are mandatory for all practices and races. They must fully cover the ears and back of the head.
Goggles
Suggested Equipment:
Pole guards
Shin guards
Face guard
Speed suits are not used by most competitors at the non-championship races.
Tuning Supplies: A kit with an iron, clamps, and files
*If you’re new to racing, a single all-mountain carving ski works great… something with a quick turning radius. As athletes progress, most choose two skis:
• Slalom skis for short, quick turns
• GS skis for longer, more stable turns at higher speeds
Athletes should be ready to carry two pairs of skis.
High school gate sets are built with a more mellow radius than FIS or USSA courses, which means you don’t need full-radius race skis. Typical high school sets are designed for easier turning, so many athletes use more versatile skis rather than strict FIS-compliant race skis.

Always put your name on everything!
A lot of equipment and clothes look the same and can be easily mixed up in the lodge or out on the rack.
